SWEET GRASS SINGERS

Sweet Grass Singers is a female singing society that has been performing traditional Iroquois social songs since 1997. The six women came together because they wanted to inspire the community and pass on the beautiful traditional verses to the younger generations.

They have performed at cultural events and conferences in Montreal, Halifax, Ottawa and Albany.

Their shows also can include a workshop element where the participants can learn about Mohawk culture, dancing and singing. They encourage audience participation while they sing in order to really appreciate the music. All of the proceeds they receive are donated to the various social causes in the community.

They will be performing this summer at the Echoes of a Proud Nation Powwow Social on July 7, 2006.

Throughout the year these three groups rehearse and perform a multitude of plays, musicals, and concerts for the community and the public at large.
